About Siyu Yang

Dr. Siyu Yang is a classically trained pianist. She enjoys teaching piano lessons in her home studio to children and adults of all ages and skill levels, as well as presenting workshops and recitals to students and music teachers in the greater Boston area. She is passionate about blog writing on piano teaching and arranging music as piano teaching resource.

A graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Minnesota State University, Mankato, and Shenyang Conservatory of Music, Siyu Yang holds Doctoral, Master's, and Bachelor’s degrees in piano performance. Her primary teachers were Timothy Hoft and David Viscoli. She received her harpsichord and organ training from Jonathan Lee and Chad Winterfeldt, respectively.

Dr. Yang celebrates the versatility of piano performing arts as she has performed as soloist, chamber musician and cross-art forms musician on various keyboard instruments in academic settings and local communities. Siyu Yang made her concerto solo debut with Minnesota State University orchestra in 2018. During her graduate studies, she performed harpsichord in early music ensemble, and various keyboards in wind ensemble and symphony orchestra, and she served as the university accompanist for Choral studies. Apart from her music engagement in collegiate setting, she served as church pianist and organist at her local church. In the last years of her DMA studies, she researched Bach keyboard music in American Horror Films and performed an arrangement of J.S Bach’s keyboard works for her silent film: Tracing the Shadows of Gothic Bach.

Teaching

Siyu Yang believes that students of all levels have the potential to develop their individual musical language by receiving proper musical training. She values the knowledge of theory and musicianship as well as developing efficient practicing habits in every stage of piano learning. She encourages students to use classical music as a foundation to explore and appreciate a wide range of music styles, and she encourages students’ creativity in performing, arranging and improvising music.

Online Piano Lessons

Dr. Siyu Yang is passionate about researching and experimenting with the most up-to-date technology for online piano lessons. She supports her students with trouble-shooting their software and equipment for online piano lessons.

 

In Person Lessons

Dr. Siyu Yang offers in-person piano lessons in Brighton, Newton and the Greater Boston Area, with lesson lengths of 30, 45, or 60 minutes.

Accompanist

Collaborative Pianist

As a collaborative pianist, Dr. Yang values both authenticity and creativity. In her college years at SYCM, she and her friends formed a piano trio on arranging Russian Folk Music and a music group improvising on Chinese poetry.

During her graduate studies, she served as a university accompanist and performed with numerous university ensembles.

Her favorites are performing in early music ensembles (harpsichord) and contemporary instrumental groups.

Church Pianist & Organist

Dr. Siyu Yang started her church pianist journey in Mankato, Minnesota in 2015. She performed regularly with both contemporary worship bands and traditional worship groups in Bethel Baptist Church, Mankato.

After receiving organ training at Gustavus Adolphus College, she served as the pianist and organist for Presbyterian Church, Le Sueur until 2018.

She is now performing as substitute pianist and organist in First Parish Church in Brookline, Massachusetts since 2023.
